SkyDrive’s eVTOL Strategy

Arnaud Coville, our Chief Development Officer, talks about features and unique sales point of the SKYDRIVE (SD-05).
In Interview 1, he will speak about the feasibility of urban air mobility, while Interview 2 will focus on the advantages of our patent-pending rotor dome design and the rotor configuration.

Certification Progress

In October 2021, Japan’s Civil Aviation Bureau accepted SkyDrive’s certification application, and we have been making steady progress toward obtaining certification for commercial use. The Federal Aviation Administration also accepted our application in June 2024, and we are now actively advancing certification activities in both Japan and the United States

SKYDRIVE

“SKYDRIVE”, also known as the Model SD-05, is a three-seat electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. SkyDrive, a Japanese company, envisions a future where eVTOL is a common mode of daily transportation in Japan and around the world. The Model SD-05 is currently in the process of obtaining certification from both the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau and the Federal Aviation Administration.

SD-03

The SD-03 flying car prototype successfully performed the first-ever public manned test flight in August 2020 at SkyDrive’s testing site in Toyota City in central Japan. Characterized by contra-rotating propeller (CRP) technology, the aircraft features four counter-rotating propellor units — 2 propellors in each unit, 8 total — mounted at the four corners of the fuselage. The SD-03 fuselage is one of the world’s most compact and generates enough lift to carry a person with a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 400 kg (881 lb).

SD-XX

The SD-XX flying car is a concept model envisioned by SkyDrive to provide door-to-door air mobility. Our aim is to create a two-seat, ultra-compact flying car that allows take-offs and landings in small areas, including convenience store parking lots and building rooftops. Additionally, our development path envisions a flying car that also can be driven on land to enable true point-to-point mobility to any destination.
